For those who don’t want to miss out on anything, this odyssey will allow you to profit from what the Mingan archipelago has to offer: several of the most important monolith sites, a complete sample of the wildlife and flora, a good chance of whales watching.
Despite the length of this expedition, the daily distance covered is very reasonable and makes it accessible to everyone.
The departure is done where the Romaine river meets the gulf. From there we will head toward the La Grosse Romaine island to eventually change course and head toward Quarry island. After lunch, we will have the opportunity to take the paths that cross the island.
We will begin our day by exploring the shores on the south side of the island. From there, we will paddle over to the Zoo, a well-known site for monoliths on La Grande Île island. We will have our lunch on the site and then head towards the campsite on the same island.
The third day is dedicated to the visit of La Grande Île island.
We will go around the island by the south side, slowly heading towards Le Château, one of the most beautiful monoliths in the whole archipelago.
After lunch, the group will continue it’s exploration of the shores to finally arrive at Havre à Petit-Henri campsite.
We will begin the fourth day by crossing over to Île Nue passing by islands called Les Îles à Bouleaux to witness the Pain de Sucre where we will have lunch.
On our arrival on Île Nue, you will discover why it is named Île Nue which translates to Nude Island: no tree grows on this island. The island also has a large tern colony.
The fifth day begins with a short crossing over to Les Îles aux Perroquets (the Parrots Islands).
After touring Île de la Maison and Île du Wreck, we will visit Île aux Perroquets where we will see the lighthouse and different types of birds, such as Small Penguins and Atlantic Puffins, nesting in the cliffs surrounding a large portion of the island. An interpretation of the history of the lighthouse and it’s keepers is offered by Parks Canada.
We will therafter head towards Longue-Pointe, our return destination.
Itineraries are subject to change due to weather conditions and to the availability of campsites.
